My favorite part about documenting weddings are the people who make these celebrations truly memorable. While all those little details we spend so much time agonizing over – the dress, the invites, place-settings, favors, cake, florals – are incredibly beautiful, I always find myself attracted to the moments. These moments are what set your day apart from everyone else’s. How you get lost in your grandparents’ arms as they remember you as a child. When your mother’s eyes start to water just before you turn around in your wedding dress. The humbling expression on your face as you read your vows to your partner who is listening with every fiber in their body. The laughter during toasts (or sometimes roasts) as it spreads across the room like a wild fire. The celebratory clinking of glasses followed by warm and heartfelt well wishes. To me, the simple moments have always spoke the loudest.
Silas and Sue’s farm-to-table wedding was spectacular for many reasons. It took place in one of the most beautiful parts of Wisconsin I’ve seen yet – the family’s farm that Silas grew up on. I can only imagine how awesome his childhood was with all that land to explore and wander. The weather was unusual for a summer day in Wisconsin. Light rain created this romantic fog I couldn’t have gotten more lucky to shoot in. Their super sweet and vocal donkey strutted around as she proudly flaunted her floral hat. And the kids… These kids were the best. I can still hear their small talks of curiousity as they played dare while the adults caught up over great food and drinks.
It’s the moments I’ll never forget, and this wedding was packed full of them.
